All in One. All in Fun.

We’re here to help you raise Curious, Courageous and Kind kids. It’s just as important to learn how to code as it to unplug and go on a hike. It’s just as important to learn to design buildings as it is to create community. Get the best of all learning worlds in one amazinating EDMO summer. Each unique weekly theme features a different combination of Science, Maker, Technology, and Nature lessons. Enroll in several different themes for maximum 21st Century skill-building. Oh, and don’t forget, every camp day also includes good ol’ fashion camp rallies, songs and outdoor games mixed with research-informed Social Emotional Learning games and our signature EDMO Vibe game. To learn more about the method behind our campness, check out the EDMO Method page.

Discover the world around you by asking scientific questions about why things happen. In our Mysteries and Myths program, students will investigate natural phenomena and other mysteries of the scientific world. Each week we will study a different natural phenomena and discover how that phenomena occurs scientifically. Students will also debunk myths and learn to develop and ask meaningful scientific questions about the world around them.

It’s time to create your ingeniously unique masterpiece! Using an array of artists as inspiration for our styles and techniques, campers will play with different mediums of visual art. As campers create collages, paintings, dyes, and drawings, we’ll also highlight the scientific and mathematical side of art production through discussions of patterns, color and perspective. By the end of the week, both the left side and right side of our brains will be tickled pink!

Jump into the field of biology research! EDMO is teaming up this summer with the California Academy of Science’s nationwide STEM program, Science Action Club (SAC). Campers become ornithologists (bird scientists), and explore feathers, flight and the features that make birds unique. Using field research tools and smart technology, youth identify local birds and investigate environmental changes that impact bird behavior. The bird counts they submit to eBird – a citizen science project from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology – help scientists better understand these important species.

Create your very own Android app!  Using MIT App Inventor, campers will use drag-and-drop “code blocks” to design and program a complete mobile app.  To begin campers will work on sample projects that introduce all of the capabilities of App Inventor; from basic buttons and UI elements to text-to-speech, camera integration, and game mechanics.  Campers spend the rest of the week working in small design teams to brainstorm and build their own app concept from start to finish.

Every Tech Program also includes Team Building, Outdoor Recreation and Games, Camp Cheers, and more.

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Collaboration, Problem Solving, Initiative. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method.

Please note that campers work in pairs or teams and share computers. This allows for a more collaborative process, as well as more comprehensive and innovative projects. Plus, it’s more fun!

NOTE: Apps are only compatible with Android devices. Applications are made in App Inventor and downloaded onto an Android phone- all campers will have a gmail account made for their own app account.

Our Maker Programs builds “The Maker Mindset” in campers. These collaborative design challenge projects incorporate art and encourage kids to stretch their creativity and grit by re-purposing materials, prototyping designs, learning from their mistakes, and making modifications. Campers work as a team and learn as a team by sharing their discoveries through the process; with the Instructor acting mainly as their guide.

Our Science Programs explore the intersection of Arts & Science through experiential learning. Projects encourage kids to see the world through the lens of nature’s creatures and those who study them. As they immerse themselves in the physical and natural world of the weekly theme, campers use the scientific method and actual tools and techniques employed by physicists, chemists, biologists, or entomologists in the field.

Our Technology Programs empower campers to make a difference in the world by building fundamental digital media skills. Campers create “positive goal” games, apps, movies, fashion designs, and more in each session. Yes, kids are learning tech, but they’re also evaluating their audience, conveying a personal message, being artistic, creating public service announcements, encouraging re-purposing, or just making people laugh with their unique techno-vations.

Our Nature Programs bring Art and Science into the outdoors where the natural environment becomes our classroom. Campers experiment and build in beautiful natural settings where they develop eco-consciousness, take guided hikes and learn to identify and respect flora and fauna. They also develop survival skills as they learn how to tie knots, construct a shelter and safely build a campfire. Older EDMO campers even take a weekly field trip to awesome local treasures. EDMO PRO campers also bring technology into the mix.
