Thanksgiving Break Camp – Motion Makers

Transportation of the future is here! Students will learn the science behind some of our current transportation methods such as flying, driving and train travel. Students will also learn about some futuristic ways of getting from here to there; such as magnetic levitation, pneumatics and rocketry. Come along for an exciting day of current and futuristic modes of transportation.

Sample Projects

Rubber Band Helicopters

Campers will use simple materials such as rubber bands, craft sticks and propellers, to construct a helicopter that will fly in the air!

Magnetic Levitation Train

Using legos and rare earth magnets, campers will construct a monorail-like train, called a MagLev train.  Each individual camper will construct a train and then collaborate with others to build a magnetic track where they can move their trains.

Hot Air Balloons

Campers will build a hot air balloon using a plastic bag, string, a small basket, and a candle. Campers will watch with amazement as the candle’s heat causes the plastic bag to rise lifting the candle off the ground!
