Minecraft Code Masters
Grades: 3 - 4

Dive into Minecraft’s code and create customized mods and mini-games!  Using Code Kingdoms, a drag-and-drop programming platform, campers will learn how to edit Minecraft’s rules and game mechanics and even invent their own entirely new Minecraft game features. In building these Minecraft modifications (or “mods”), campers will learn fundamental computer science concepts like variables, functions, loops, and conditionals.  Want to craft a hammer that launches lightning bolts? Summon a sheep the size of a skyscraper? Invent a totally new and original Minecraft mini-game with your own rules and scoring systems? All this and more is possible through the power of code!

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Problem Solving, Initiative, Responsibility, Collaboration, Communication, Emotion Management. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method™.

Fun Fact. In 2018, there was a 30% increase in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills developed for those who attended two weeks of Camp EDMO™ and a 39% increase for returning EDMO™ families over new families!

Please note that campers work in pairs or teams and share computers. This allows for a more collaborative process, as well as more comprehensive and innovative projects. Plus, it’s more fun!

Sample Projects

Lucky Blocks

Lucky Blocks

Campers will get to create their very own version of the popular “Lucky Blocks” mod!  Campers will create a block that when broken, will trigger a random, wild effect — anything from a super-speed power-up to a swarm of chickens!

In this beginner project, campers will be introduced to the Code Kingdoms modding environment and learn how to add and edit Java code. Campers will work with methods, switch statements and cases to define the various possible effects of the Lucky Block.

Heist and Seek

Heist and Seek

Campers will create and customize a multiplayer mini-game similar to hide and seek.  In this game, one player gets two minutes to hide a bunch of “treasure” blocks and then the rest of the players are challenged to find as many of these treasures as they can before time runs out.

Building on their knowledge of coding, campers will learn about and work with loops, conditionals and timer variables to define the rules and mechanics of this mini-game.

The Great Blockish Bake-Off

The Great Blockish Bake-Off

It’s the ultimate Minecraft baking challenge! Created and customized by the camper’s code, this mini-game has players racing against each other to bake and sell the most items and get the highest score.

Campers will learn about and practice using more advanced coding concepts to complete this mod, including arrays, nested loops and data types.

9:00-9:30AM Morning Rally

Although we have a strict “No Nuts” food policy, we have also have a strict “Go Nuts” rally policy. You never know what surprises await when staff and kids take the stage for songs, skits, dress up days, and ridiculous contests.

Active minds lead to hungry bellies! Don’t forget to pack a healthy snack for your camper every morning…with no nuts of course! Remember: If you ordered a delicious lunch, you automatically receive a healthy morning snack!

During enrichment stations, campers really get into the weekly theme and curriculum. Campers are introduced to the weekly subject and concepts, learn new skills and facts, and design, create and build daily and weekly projects.

Our Afternoon rally ends the day in an upbeat way. This gives staff  a chance to wrap up the day, make announcements for the days to follow and give SNAPS!

3:00-3:15PM Pick-Up

Pull up or walk up, whichever you fancy. Either way we’ll make a point to let you know something special about your child’s day. Look out for our daily email from the Camp Director detailing the activities at your camp location, along with a reminder to visit EDMO At Home to see what to look forward to tomorrow and suggested activities, books, websites, museum exhibitions, and more ways to keep the curiosity going.

3:15-6:00PM PM Extended Day, PM Snack & Free Play

Need a little more time in your day? Our PM Extended Day Program is a great option. While you’re away, campers can enjoy a little more free time with each other and staff. They’ll also have the option to spend time in the “Hang Time” room with access to music, games, computers, and maker supplies.  PM Extended Day goes from 3 PM – 6 PM but parents can pick up whenever works for them…but no later than 6 PM please! Our staff needs to get home too.

“Camp staff are fun, caring and inspirational. My son is already asking to enroll again next summer.”
