Minecraft Adventure Makers
Grades: 3 - 4

Time to craft your very own Minecraft adventure!  In this week of camp, campers will learn the basics of game design, as they plan and build a Minecraft “Adventure Map”, a special type of “game within a game” to challenge their friends and family.  Using tools and techniques like redstone mechanisms, command blocks and the powerful WorldEdit plugin, campers will create perplexing puzzles, tricky traps, monster-infested mazes, tremendous treasure troves, and more!  What kinds of action-packed challenges and epic rewards will you craft for your Minecraft adventure?

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Creativity, Initiative, Collaboration, Problem Solving, Empathy, Communication, Organization. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method™.

Fun Fact. In 2018, there was a 30% increase in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills developed for those who attended two weeks of Camp EDMO™ and a 39% increase for returning EDMO™ families over new families!

Please note that campers work in pairs or teams and share computers. This allows for a more collaborative process, as well as more comprehensive and innovative projects. Plus, it’s more fun!

Sample Projects

“WorldEdit” Mod Tools

“WorldEdit” Mod Tools

Campers will have access to the popular “WorldEdit” mod, which adds an assortment of powerful construction tools to Minecraft.  Raise mountains, carve out rivers, summon castles, and more – all with just a few clicks!

Campers will practice using different “WorldEdit” tools and learn about the mod’s special features that can be used to make sweeping changes to a Minecraft world, in just a few simple console commands.

Coding a Command Block

Coding a Command Block

Using Minecraft’s special “Command Block”, campers will write a few lines of code to create an in-game event for the game’s player to trigger.  For example, the command block can summon a group of zombies when a player enters a room or play timed sound effects to guide (or trick) a player!

Campers will learn all about Minecraft commands, including the wide range of commands available in Minecraft and their associated syntax structures and parameters.

Redstone Mechanisms

Redstone Mechanisms

“Redstone” is a category of blocks and items in Minecraft that act like mechanical or electrical mechanisms.  Campers will use redstone mechanics to create traps, puzzles, hidden doorways, and more.

Campers will learn all about creating redstone circuits and mechanisms. They will also learn how to generate and transmit redstone signals, which blocks and items are affected by redstone signals and the special features of advanced components like compactors and dispensers.
