Minecraft Adventure Academy
Grades: 1 - 2

Pack your pickaxe, collect your compass and grab your grappling hook, it’s Minecraft Adventure Academy!  In this week of camp, our intrepid campers will embark on an epic expedition to a never-before-seen Minecraft world, all while learning about and practicing fundamental skills in computer literacy.  Campers will explore mysterious ruins, solve perilous puzzles, hunt for ancient artifacts, and build their very own Minecraft museum to show off their collection of treasures. Each adventurous activity will have campers practicing basic computer skills like mouse manipulation, typing, keyboard shortcuts, launching and closing programs, navigating menus, and more!

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Problem Solving, Creativity, Collaboration, Emotion Management, Computer Literacy. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method™.

Please note that campers work in pairs or teams and share computers. This allows for a more collaborative process, as well as more comprehensive and innovative projects. Plus, it’s more fun!

Sample Projects

Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt

Each day of camp will have campers adventuring in a different Minecraft world, looking for new artifacts and treasure to add to their collection.  Campers will have an assortment of tools and maps at their disposal to help in this treasure hunt.

Campers will learn about and practice mouse manipulation and menu navigation in accessing and using various in-game tools and accessories during their adventures. They’ll also practice window manipulation, such as minimizing and switching between windows in order to refer to treasure maps and other resources on the computer.

“Magic Word” Puzzles

“Magic Word” Puzzles

As campers explore our Minecraft worlds, they’ll collect secret codes and magic words that can be used to overcome future obstacles and challenges.  For example, one magic word might open a hidden passageway, while another word can build a bridge out of thin air!

Campers will learn about and practice typing, all the while familiarizing themselves with key placement and keyboard shortcuts.

Minecraft Museum

Minecraft Museum

At the end of each day, campers will work on building a museum or other structure to exhibit the artifacts found in their adventures.  This project will be done in Minecraft’s “Creative Mode”, which offers unlimited access to the game’s building blocks.

Campers will practice mouse manipulation, including left vs. right clicking, scrolling, and “drag and drop” movements. Campers will also practice understanding and manipulating a digital 3D model, in the form of Minecraft’s block-based construction.
