Design, code, and perfect your very own video game! Students in the Game Design Lab will plan and develop a video game, including the code used to define the rules and mechanics of the game, as well as the artwork for their game’s characters, objects, and environments.

Build an Apple Catcher Game

Students design and write code for collectible items, defining how the items are generated and what the player must do to collect them.

Students learn the fundamentals of programming, including variables, functions, and arithmetic operators. Students also learn about collision detection.

Learn how to give game objects a kind of velocity and gravity, and use these flying objects to neutralize hazards, score points, complete puzzles, and more.

Students explore the concept of “loops”, a core coding concept.

Design Side Scroller

Use code to define custom mouse and keyboard settings to trigger various game events, such as moving the player or creating new game objects.

Students learn about event listeners, a powerful feature of languages like Java and JavaScript.
