Body Builders
Grades: Pre-K - 4

Flex your biology muscles!  This week, campers will explore our human bodies; how they work, and how to keep them healthy. They will be making slimy brains, wearing chest vests, testing the abilities of their own bodies, and more!  Campers will be learning about the parts of the body, major body systems such as the nervous and circulatory system, and how other animals’ systems are like and unlike our own. Our bodies are always working hard to keep us active and healthy. It’s time to discover what’s going on in there!

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Initiative, Problem Solving, Responsibility. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method™.

Fun Fact. In 2018, there was a 30% increase in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills developed for those who attended two weeks of Camp EDMO™ and a 39% increase for returning EDMO™ families over new families!

Sample Projects

Articulated Hand

Articulated Hand

Campers will create a moving model of their own hand, using straws, rubber bands and twine. This model will help them visualize the hardworking tendons and muscles they use every day.

Campers will learn about the complicated musculature of human hands and how muscles, bones and tendons work together to move our joints.

Beating Heart

Beating Heart

Campers will use maker materials to create a model of a heart valve. Their beating heart will show how this powerful organ pumps blood throughout our entire body!

Campers will learn about the anatomy of the heart and the circulatory process. They will also explore concepts of muscle contraction and pressure and learn how to use a model to explore a scientific concept.

Imaginary Invertebrate

Imaginary Invertebrate

After completing an exploration of the nervous system, campers will use maker materials to create their own invertebrate; inspired by arthropod, mollusk or annelid invertebrates they find in the park.

Campers will learn about the vertebrate nervous system and then compare and contrast vertebrate (with a backbone) and invertebrate (without a backbone) anatomy. They will also explore invertebrate diversity in the parks!

Field Trips

We work to curate exciting and diverse field trips that align with each weekly theme! Our Field Trip Instructors support our enrichment curriculum off site by bridging concepts of the week with experiences in the field.

Take a look at some of the Field Trips that our EDMO Prime (1st-2nd) and EDMO Max (3rd-4th) campers might be taking!

“These last two weeks at EDMO have been incredible for my son. We've had him in a lot of different after-school activities and camps, but never has he been more engaged than when he is at EDMO. At the end of the day he's excited to tell us what he did, and in the morning he's excited to get back to camp. I've also been so impressed with the staff, Thank you!”
