Awesome Aquanauts
Grades: Pre-K - 4

It’s time to make a splash! This week, campers will dive into the world of water with watershed models, buoyant boats, seafloor maps, and more. Campers will learn about the chemical properties of water, the roles it plays on our planet and the ways we use it every day.  Water is one of our most precious resources, go with the flow this week to learn why it’s so important and what we can do to protect it!

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Initiative, Responsibility, Empathy.  Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method™.

Fun Fact. In 2018, there was a 30% increase in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills developed for those who attended two weeks of Camp EDMO™ and a 39% increase for returning EDMO™ families over new families!

Sample Projects

Water Pocket

Water Pocket

Campers will recreate the water feature of their choice (e.g. tidepool, pond, lake, shore, or puddle) in a pocket-size tin to carry with them!  They will fill their water pocket with the biotic inhabitants of their water feature.

Campers will learn about different types of water features and the life they support.  They will also learn how these different bodies of water play important roles in our California ecosystem.

Mini Flotilla

Mini Flotilla

Campers will design and build their own floating vessels with maker materials such as aluminum foil, cardboard and duct tape. They will then test their vessels to see how much weight they can carry across water.

Campers will learn about the ways that water is used as a means of transportation and how humans harness the power of buoyancy to do move things!

Searching with Sonar

Searching with Sonar

Campers will design an underwater landscape and then map it using depth measurements. This process will help them model how scientists use SONAR to map the ocean floor!

Campers will learn about features of the ocean floor, such as ridges and rifts, and how they are formed.  They will also learn about SONAR technology and its many applications in water!

Field Trips

We work to curate exciting and diverse field trips that align with each weekly theme! Our Field Trip Instructors support our enrichment curriculum off site by bridging concepts of the week with experiences in the field.

Take a look at some of the Field Trips that our EDMO Prime (1st-2nd) and EDMO Max (3rd-4th) campers might be taking!

“Loved that my daughter is learning new things at camp. She came home excited and wanted to share her two things she learned at camp which included "protype". She was so proud of telling us all about it. Big stuff for an outgoing kindergartner now 1st grader!”
