Art in the Park

Grades: Pre-K-K

All Programs

Bring art to its next natural dimension in the park! This week, campers will explore sculpture, painting and more. They will learn about artists who have used nature as their muse, like Jackson Pollock and Andy Goldsworthy, then recreate some of these artists’ well known works. Campers will create outside in nature and use natural materials.

This theme may be run in a park or out of an indoor facility, with walking excursions on the property or in the surrounding area.

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Creativity, Collaboration, Responsibility, Emotion Management. Learn more about other skills we build through The EDMO Method®.

Take a look at your camper's daily schedule below, under sample projects!

Campers will learn how to forage mindfully and sustainably to harvest items from nature. Then they will use these found objects to create unique pieces of art in the style of sculptor Andy Goldsworthy.

Campers will learn about the local flora in the area around camp. Then campers will explore elements of art composition, both two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally, and learn about the life and works of Andy Goldsworthy.

Moving Masterpieces

Campers will paint with movement to create their own abstract art piece, just like Jackson Pollock. They will then finish their paintings with brilliant colors to bring them to life.

Campers will learn about the techniques and legacy of Jackson Pollock, as well as about abstract art and composition.

Playful Puppets

Playful Puppets

Campers will become puppeteers and create the illusion that a puppet is alive. Juniors will create original sock puppet characters and they will work as a group to put on a short puppet skit for their peers.

Campers will learn about the use of puppets in performances around the world while exploring the elements of narrative to create a short skit. They will observe modern-day puppeteers found in cartoons, shows and even take a look at some of the astounding work of puppeteer Basil Twist.

Need a little more time in your day? Our After Care Program is a great option. Campers stay safe while parents or guardians finish up the work day or sneak in that last appointment before picking up the kids. While you’re away, campers can play as they enjoy a little more free time with each other and staff. After Care goes from 3 pm – 6 pm but parents can pick up whenever works for them…but no later than 6 pm please! Our staff needs to get home too.

“When my son came home from his first day at camp, he told us he needed to come back until he is in 5th grade. He loved camp so much!! He is pretty reserved and shy, but came home talking about all the fun things they did. It was a really positive experience and we can't wait to do it again next summer!”
