Art in the Park
Grades: K-1, 2-4

It’s aliiive! This week campers unleash their creativity and bring art to life through sculpture, music, living art, and more! Students discover the world of art in action and learn about some of the world’s most famous artists along the way. Bravo!

Sample Projects

Pollock in the Park

Pollock in the Park

Campers will paint with movement to create their own abstract art piece!

Campers will learn about abstract art and art composition. They will also learn about the life and techniques of Jackson Pollock and what made him such an influential figure in the art world.

Marvelous Mobiles

Marvelous Mobiles

Campers will use leaves, twigs, stones, and other found objects from the park to create dynamic, moving sculptures.  

Campers will learn about the life, works and inspiration of Alexander Calder.  They will also learn about three dimensional sculpture composition and how to balance hanging elements to construct mobiles.

Golden State Goldsworthy

Golden State Goldsworthy

Campers will draw inspiration from the natural areas around them and use found leaves, rocks, flowers, and more to create a living art piece.

Campers will explore elements of art composition, both two- and three-dimensionally, and learn about the life and works of Andy Goldsworthy.  They will also learn about biological decomposition and how that process contributes to art made with natural materials.

Field Trips

We work to curate exciting and diverse field trips that align with each weekly theme! Our Field Trip Instructors support our enrichment curriculum off site by bridging concepts of the week with experiences in the field.

What each age group will be doing

Our K- 1st grade campers will draw inspiration from famous artists and nature to create 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional and performance art.  They will use maker supplies and found materials to make unique pieces.

Our 2nd – 4th grade campers will learn about art history and famous artists and use their stories and techniques as inspiration to create unique 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional and performance art.  They will explore art not only as a product, but as a process.

Some kids thrive on routines and harmony. Others not so much. Good news! We’ve found the secret recipe that works for all EDMO campers!

8:00-9:00AM AM Program

Need to get to work early? We understand. By 8AM our staff is already hard at work helping our campers make new friends, do arts & crafts projects, play games, and plan special activities.

8:50-9:00AM Drop-Off

Be greeted by name or a high five by a professional staff member…dressed in a mermaid costume or a Viking hat. In a hurry? Pull up and we’ll open the door for you. In no rush? Park your car, come right in and shake your counselor’s fin.

9:00-9:30AM Morning Rally

Although we have a strict “No Nuts” food policy, we have also have a strict “Go Nuts” rally policy. You never know what surprises await when staff and kids take the stage for songs, skits, dress up days, and ridiculous contests.

9:30-10:30AM Enrichment 1

During enrichment stations, campers really get into the weekly theme and curriculum. Campers delve into to the weekly subject and concepts, learn new skills and facts, and design, create and build daily and weekly projects.

10:30-10:45AM Snack

Active minds lead to hungry bellies! Don’t forget to pack a healthy snack for your camper every morning…with no nuts of course! Remember: If you ordered a delicious lunch, you automatically receive a healthy morning snack!

10:45-11:45AM (Monday/Thursday) Game Time

Game Time is all about playing games and having some good ‘ol run-around time. During Game Time, campers will participate in organized recreation activities designed to promote teamwork, collaboration and fun physical activity.

 

10:45-11:45AM (Tuesday/Wednesday) Hike

Park campers will take hikes that showcase the nature of the region and foster trail etiquette and a love for outdoor adventure.

10:45AM-2:30PM (Friday) All Camp Activity

Each Friday our camp staff plan and design a special all camp game! This could be a group relay, a special carnival, camp capture the flag, water games, etc. This changes weekly and parents will be notified if there are any special instructions for the week.

11:45AM-12:30PM Lunch

Add a delicious lunch each day. It’s a snap! Just click/check the lunch box on your enrollment form and a quality lunch will be delivered to camp daily. Rather pack your own lunch? Please just do not bring any products that contain: cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, pine nuts, walnuts or heaven forbid, the “‘Mother of All Nut Allergies”—the peanut.

12:30-1:30PM Enrichment 2

During enrichment stations, campers really get into the weekly theme and curriculum. Campers are introduced to the weekly subject and concepts, learn new skills and facts, and design, create and build daily and weekly projects.

1:30-2:30PM (Monday - Thursday) Tree Time

In Tree Time, we focus on team building and community. We get to know our teammates names, meet our Kimochis’ friends, create team names and cheers, and play the EDMO Vibe Game™. Tree time will also focus on nature awareness and outdoor appreciation.

2:40-3:00PM Closing Rally

Our Afternoon rally ends the day in an upbeat way. This gives staff a chance to wrap up the day, make announcements for the days to follow and give SNAPS!

3:00-3:15PM Pick-Up

Pull up or walk up, whichever you fancy. Either way we’ll make a point to let you know something special about your child’s day. Look out for our daily email from the Camp Director detailing the activities at your camp location, along with a reminder to visit EDMO At Home to see what to look forward to tomorrow and suggested activities, books, websites, museum exhibitions, and more ways to keep the curiosity going.

4:00-6:00PM PM Extended Day, PM Snack & Free Play

During our EDMO PM Program, campers are given time for snack and free play before continuing structured recreation and enrichment projects. Enrichment projects will follow the program theme of the week. Parents are welcome to pick up any time between 3:15-6PM…but no later please! Our staff needs to get home too.

Once a week, typically Wednesdays, our lucky entering 2nd—4th grade campers take an adventure on a chartered bus to local museums, businesses or organizations that relate to each theme.

9:30AM-2:30PM (Wednesday) All Day Hike or Tree Time

Our older campers get to take their hike to a whole other level with a full day spent out on the trail. Campers will learn about nature, experience curriculum and eat lunch – all out in nature!
