EDMO® offers one-on-one Coaching sessions for academic subjects like Math, English, Science, or hobbies like Roblox, painting and ukulele. Coaches are talented, smart, passionate and kind people who create meaningful mentor relationships with youth. Each Coach sets their availability and writes their curriculum — a unique blend of their mind, heart and soul.

  • Regular Price: $80/hour
  • Fall Price: $50/session
  • Note: In order to offer Honor System Pricing for our Coach program, we need philanthropic partners. In the meantime, we are doing our part to create well-paying jobs for credentialed teachers, educators and college students who help children reach their full potential.
  • Now Offering Small Group Coaching Sessions for up to 3 kids!
  • Include Siblings or Friends in your EDMO Coaching Sessions for an additional fee by selecting the 1:2 or 1:3 options during checkout. Kids will attend the same subject together and various ages are welcome.

Homework is crucial to helping students review and make sense of their own learning throughout the school day. In each session, students will receive 1:1 assistance and support with homework in each subject area. Our coaches are prepared to support students in literacy, math or any subject area where homework is given. Support can vary based on grade levels and homework given to students.

Julissa Martinez

Julissa Martinez is currently in her 4th year of college at the University of California Merced, majoring in Psychology and Public Health. She is bilingual; fluent in English and Spanish. Ever since she was a young she knew that she wanted to work with kids. The passion to create and help kids develop and grow to their best of their abilities with surrounding support and an encouraging environment is what strives her to be the best version of herself when working with kids. She has always been learning and working with kids from babysitting family members to volunteering and working with kids. Her career goals involve working with kids because she loves the experiences she’s had with them; kids uplift and create a fun working environment. Education is a critical component in a kids development so when she can do something to provide help or support, she is driven to take on that opportunity to get kids striving in all that they do.

Dominique Martinez

Dominique is in her twelfth year of teaching. She will begin the 2020-2021 school year as a 4th grade instructor, but has had experience working with a wide range of students from K-Adults. She is currently in the process of completing her Master of Secondary Education with a credential in General Science. Additionally she completed her Bachelor degree at the University of California, San Diego. Currently she holds her Adult Teaching Credential in the areas of Math, Physical Science, ESL instruction, and Social Science. She is a Google Certified Educator who understands the needs of learners and the applications they must learn to become successful in a blended learning classroom. Dominique believes in educating the whole child with the main concept that the parent is the primary educator.

Kristy is a professional visual artist, linguist, teaching artist, and community organizer with more than a decade of experience teaching and tutoring in a variety of subjects. She holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Spanish Literature from Georgia State University and a Certificate in Spanish to English Translation from NYU. She is also a TEFL certified ESL teacher and has been teaching English and Spanish to students of all ages for over 10 years. She is an international muralist and has organized and participated in art projects and festivals all over the world. Kristy is passionate about youth development and has worked as a Teaching Artist for the past 5 years, teaching the art of muralism to New York city youth. She loves working with kids of all ages and seeing their confidence grow as they master the skills that used to intimidate them.

Outside of her passions for uplifting young minds to embody curiosity, integrity, and self-advocacy, her personal passions include researching, learning new things, painting, reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors with her senior dog. Her favorite job was tutoring children in an after school program in a low income area of Phoenix, where she had the opportunity to create lasting bonds with the children and procure fun, educational games to broaden their knowledge and social skills. She is eager to join the EDMO team this summer and live out their values and mission, both inside and outside of camp.

Al Wong just graduated from Mills College with a BA in Environmental Science. Although they received a degree in Environmental Science, Al has their fair share of experience in sewing, book binding/construction, theatre arts, and photography. They have worked with students of varying ability and age, and they believe in equity in education and amplifying the voices of the unheard. They look forward to learning and growing with EDMO students!

Ken is thrilled to have the opportunity to inspire and challenge young minds while rocking the EDMO vibe! He is currently a sapling among the trees at Stanford University who hopes to one day grow into a (tall) civil engineer and city planner. On the side, he serves as the news director at campus radio station KZSU 90.1FM. He has spent the past two summers at EDMO’s Alameda site, most recently as a Pro Maker Instructor, but his dedication to working with students began early on as the founder of a local mentoring program. Ken’s passion is guiding students along their quest in discovering their inner genius by leveraging their strengths and interests. You can often catch Ken in his natural habitat on board a city bus, or on the air talking about the news and interviewing fascinating people!

Sydney Segal

Sydney has been with Camp EDMO for over 12 years –– as a camper for seven, then a leader-in-training, counselor, and now… an EDMO Coach! She is currently a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, with an intended major in Media Studies and minors in Journalism and Spanish. Aside from her passions for working with children, writing, and language, Sydney is an avid traveler, volleyball player, artist, and tutor. In fact, when she’s not editing her friends’ essays or leading repeat-after-me songs at summer camp, you’ll likely find Sydney at JoAnn’s Fabrics, passing a volleyball around, or planning her next trip abroad. Though learning can surely be difficult sometimes, Sydney hopes to inspire the same enthusiasm in kids for education and trying new things that she too developed at EDMO.

Valeria is currently majoring in Computer Science at San Francisco State University. As the oldest in her family, she has always been the source of entertainment for her younger siblings and cousins. Last summer, she worked as an EDMO Tech Instructor and absolutely loved how curious all of the campers were about computers and programming. Along with tech, she also loves learning about different cultures and languages, especially through art and literature. Chris is a credentialed teacher with experience in teaching 8th, 4th, and 1st grade! He is currently teaching 4th grade and strongly believes in working with students to not only build their academic skills but their social-emotional skills as well. Tina Barrentine’s favorite sound in the whole world is “Aha!” when a concept finally clicks in the mind of a child. She loves one-on-one teaching and figuring out what works best for each child. She home schooled her own three children through high school and has tutored other students from elementary school through college. She has worked as a tutor for a nonprofit after school program, an elementary school, a preschool, a library based service for adult literacy and GED prep, and for anyone who has reached out for help. Since the age of 12, Benji has worked with EDMO, and has gained a respect and love for both the philosophies of kindness & courage and the transformation of kids able to be in its positive environment. With over seven years of experience with both counseling and tutoring in English and Grammar, Benji is hoping to be able to help facilitate a more focused learning environment in the home (and give parents a well deserved break!). Younger than most Coaches on the site – as a Freshman at Whittier College – Benji will bring youthful energy and positivity to whoever he works with. Benji believes that the best way to connect with kids beyond tutoring a subject is by engaging in their interests, while sharing laughs along the way. Benji hopes that he can serve as a coach and support system beyond homework help as well, all while giving kids another friend in a difficult period of our lives.

Lauren is so excited to be an EDMO Coach! She is currently a junior at Sonoma State University working on her bachelors in liberal studies, minor in early childhood studies, and a multiple subject teaching credential. Lauren has been a part of the EDMO family for the past 2 years as a counselor, EDMO Live! instructor, and recently an EDMO Clubs Instructor. She has also worked with an after school program for the past few years as an instructor and tutor. Lauren has a lot of experience helping students with homework as well as planning and facilitating fun enrichment activities in a variety of subjects, including math, English, science, and arts & crafts. Lauren believes in leading by example and enjoys supporting her students’ curiosity.

Maia has spent the past four summers with Camp EDMO, and is very excited to return as an EDMO Coach! She really enjoys working with young people, and has had the opportunity to do so as both a swim teacher and an EDMO camp counselor! To her, there is nothing more rewarding than making a difference in someone’s life through education. Maia believes that with hard work anything is possible, and has brought this belief with her in her life as both a student and a teacher. She has a passion for math, science, and music, and is currently the Assistant Drum Major for her school’s marching band. Maia plays the flute, the oboe, and the alto saxophone, and also conducts music. In her free time Maia enjoys reading, hiking, running, doing her math homework, and searching for good jokes.

Meghan Justice

Meghan has always looked at education as a foundation for creating greatness and strongly advocates for there to be creative and emotional education as well. Her passion and caring for all students was the impetus for Meghan’s decision to work in education, even assisting preschool – adult students when she was a student herself. Meghan earned her BS in Business Administration and has continued to use these skills to develop effective lesson plans and work in team leadership. She also has her TEFL certificate and has traveled overseas to teach English in both Palestine and Mexico. Meghan is currently working with Connecting Waters Charter School to teach homeschool students in a wide range of subjects.

In her free time Meghan enjoys painting, reading, yoga, hiking, and playing board games. As the weather gets warmer Meghan loves to go camping and spending time creating in nature.

Mrs. Katz is here to help! She has an A.A in Liberal Arts- emphasis in elementary school teaching and a in B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies. Alia is a mindful educator, with experience teaching in the classroom and online. She’s been working in the school system since 2008. She started as a paraprofessional, working in classrooms for students with moderate to severe autism. She now holds a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and is considered a California “Highly Qualified Teacher”. Alia’s personal goal is to help students recognize their own strengths. She seeks to spark curiosity and encourage academic achievement, beyond what they thought possible. She is currently in her 5th year of teaching in middle school grades 6th-8th. She has professional experience providing instruction in all core subjects. She is especially interested in Interdisciplinary Sciences, the basis of NGSS. Alia’s life experiences have drawn to her to study science – She’s experienced hurricanes, earthquakes, forest fires, and now COVID! She is the mother of three teenage sons, all with their own learning styles, needs, and strengths. Sydney has been with Camp EDMO for over 12 years –– as a camper for seven, then a leader-in-training, counselor, and now… an EDMO Coach! She is currently a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, with an intended major in Media Studies and minors in Journalism and Spanish. Aside from her passions for working with children, writing, and language, Sydney is an avid traveler, volleyball player, artist, and tutor. In fact, when she’s not editing her friends’ essays or leading repeat-after-me songs at summer camp, you’ll likely find Sydney at JoAnn’s Fabrics, passing a volleyball around, or planning her next trip abroad. Though learning can surely be difficult sometimes, Sydney hopes to inspire the same enthusiasm in kids for education and trying new things that she too developed at EDMO.

Valeria is currently majoring in Computer Science at San Francisco State University. As the oldest in her family, she has always been the source of entertainment for her younger siblings and cousins. Last summer, she worked as an EDMO Tech Instructor and absolutely loved how curious all of the campers were about computers and programming. Along with tech, she also loves learning about different cultures and languages, especially through art and literature. Jazmin recently earned her BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in Dance from California State University, Sacramento. She is currently pursuing her MA in Teaching with a Single Subject Science Credential to pursue a career in teaching high school Biology and Chemistry. Jazmin has worked in the field of education since 2016, starting out as a tutor and has since taken positions as a noon duty aid, instructional para educator for special education, after school team leader, instructor, and substitute teacher. She also spent last summer at Camp EDMO working as a Pro Maker Instructor. Her passion for her students and education has driven her to pursue a teaching career to inspire as many students as possible to become interested in the arts and sciences. As a first-time parent, Jazmin recently has also become actively involved in the Early Childhood Education program at San Juan Unified since welcoming her son into the world in October of 2019, who is a participant of this program. Her belief is that it is never too early to start your education, and it is never too late to finish your education.

Since the age of 12, Benji has worked with EDMO, and has gained a respect and love for both the philosophies of kindness & courage and the transformation of kids able to be in its positive environment. With over seven years of experience with both counseling and tutoring in English and Grammar, Benji is hoping to be able to help facilitate a more focused learning environment in the home (and give parents a well deserved break!). Younger than most Coaches on the site – as a Freshman at Whittier College – Benji will bring youthful energy and positivity to whoever he works with. Benji believes that the best way to connect with kids beyond tutoring a subject is by engaging in their interests, while sharing laughs along the way. Maia has spent the past four summers with Camp EDMO, and is very excited to return as an EDMO Coach! Meghan has always looked at education as a foundation for creating greatness and strongly advocates for there to be creative and emotional education as well. Her passion and caring for all students was the impetus for Meghan’s decision to work in education, even assisting preschool – adult students when she was a student herself. Meghan earned her BS in Business Administration and has continued to use these skills to develop effective lesson plans and work in team leadership. She also has her TEFL certificate and has traveled overseas to teach English in both Palestine and Mexico. Homework is crucial to helping students review and make sense of their own learning throughout the school day. In each session, students will receive 1:1 assistance and support with homework in each subject area. Our coaches are prepared to support students in literacy, math or any subject area where homework is given. Support can vary based on grade levels and homework given to students.

Ever since she was a young she knew that she wanted to work with kids. Al Wong just graduated from Mills College with a BA in Environmental Science. Although they received a degree in Environmental Science, Al has their fair share of experience in sewing, book binding/construction, theatre arts, and photography. Sydney has been with Camp EDMO for over 12 years –– as a camper for seven, then a leader-in-training, counselor, and now… an EDMO Coach! She is currently a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, with an intended major in Media Studies and minors in Journalism and Spanish. Aside from her passions for working with children, writing, and language, Sydney is an avid traveler, volleyball player, artist, and tutor. In fact, when she’s not editing her friends’ essays or leading repeat-after-me songs at summer camp, you’ll likely find Sydney at JoAnn’s Fabrics, passing a volleyball around, or planning her next trip abroad. Valeria is currently majoring in Computer Science at San Francisco State University. As the oldest in her family, she has always been the source of entertainment for her younger siblings and cousins. Last summer, she worked as an EDMO Tech Instructor and absolutely loved how curious all of the campers were about computers and programming. Along with tech, she also loves learning about different cultures and languages, especially through art and literature. Jazmin recently earned her BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in Dance from California State University, Sacramento. She is currently pursuing her MA in Teaching with a Single Subject Science Credential to pursue a career in teaching high school Biology and Chemistry. Jazmin has worked in the field of education since 2016, starting out as a tutor and has since taken positions as a noon duty aid, instructional para educator for special education, after school team leader, instructor, and substitute teacher. She also spent last summer at Camp EDMO working as a Pro Maker Instructor. Her passion for her students and education has driven her to pursue a teaching career to inspire as many students as possible to become interested in the arts and sciences. As a first-time parent, Jazmin recently has also become actively involved in the Early Childhood Education program at San Juan Unified since welcoming her son into the world in October of 2019, who is a participant of this program. Her belief is that it is never too early to start your education, and it is never too late to finish your education.

Since the age of 12, Benji has worked with EDMO, and has gained a respect and love for both the philosophies of kindness & courage and the transformation of kids able to be in its positive environment. With over seven years of experience with both counseling and tutoring in English and Grammar, Benji is hoping to be able to help facilitate a more focused learning environment in the home (and give parents a well deserved break!). Younger than most Coaches on the site – as a Freshman at Whittier College – Benji will bring youthful energy and positivity to whoever he works with. Benji believes that the best way to connect with kids beyond tutoring a subject is by engaging in their interests, while sharing laughs along the way. Benji hopes that he can serve as a coach and support system beyond homework help as well, all while giving kids another friend in a difficult period of our lives.

Meghan has always looked at education as a foundation for creating greatness and strongly advocates for there to be creative and emotional education as well. Her passion and caring for all students was the impetus for Meghan’s decision to work in education, even assisting preschool – adult students when she was a student herself. Meghan earned her BS in Business Administration and has continued to use these skills to develop effective lesson plans and work in team leadership. She also has her TEFL certificate and has traveled overseas to teach English in both Palestine and Mexico. Meghan is currently working with Connecting Waters Charter School to teach homeschool students in a wide range of subjects.

Ken is thrilled to have the opportunity to inspire and challenge young minds while rocking the EDMO vibe! He is currently a sapling among the trees at Stanford University who hopes to one day grow into a (tall) civil engineer and city planner. On the side, he serves as the news director at campus radio station KZSU 90.1FM. He has spent the past two summers at EDMO’s Alameda site, most recently as a Pro Maker Instructor, but his dedication to working with students began early on as the founder of a local mentoring program. Ken’s passion is guiding students along their quest in discovering their inner genius by leveraging their strengths and interests. You can often catch Ken in his natural habitat on board a city bus, or on the air talking about the news and interviewing fascinating people!

Ken is thrilled to have the opportunity to inspire and challenge young minds while rocking the EDMO vibe! He is currently a sapling among the trees at Stanford University who hopes to one day grow into a (tall) civil engineer and city planner. On the side, he serves as the news director at campus radio station KZSU 90.1FM. He has spent the past two summers at EDMO’s Alameda site, most recently as a Pro Maker Instructor, but his dedication to working with students began early on as the founder of a local mentoring program. Ken’s passion is guiding students along their quest in discovering their inner genius by leveraging their strengths and interests. You can often catch Ken in his natural habitat on board a city bus, or on the air talking about the news and interviewing fascinating people!

Sydney has been with Camp EDMO for over 12 years –– as a camper for seven, then a leader-in-training, counselor, and now… an EDMO Coach! She is currently a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, with an intended major in Media Studies and minors in Journalism and Spanish. Aside from her passions for working with children, writing, and language, Sydney is an avid traveler, volleyball player, artist, and tutor. In fact, when she’s not editing her friends’ essays or leading repeat-after-me songs at summer camp, you’ll likely find Sydney at JoAnn’s Fabrics, passing a volleyball around, or planning her next trip abroad. Though learning can surely be difficult sometimes, Sydney hopes to inspire the same enthusiasm in kids for education and trying new things that she too developed at EDMO.

Tina Barrentine’s favorite sound in the whole world is “Aha!” when a concept finally clicks in the mind of a child. She loves one-on-one teaching and figuring out what works best for each child. She home schooled her own three children through high school and has tutored other students from elementary school through college. She has worked as a tutor for a nonprofit after school program, an elementary school, a preschool, a library based service for adult literacy and GED prep, and for anyone who has reached out for help. Jazmin recently earned her BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in Dance from California State University, Sacramento. She is currently pursuing her MA in Teaching with a Single Subject Science Credential to pursue a career in teaching high school Biology and Chemistry. Jazmin has worked in the field of education since 2016, starting out as a tutor and has since taken positions as a noon duty aid, instructional para educator for special education, after school team leader, instructor, and substitute teacher. She also spent last summer at Camp EDMO working as a Pro Maker Instructor. Her passion for her students and education has driven her to pursue a teaching career to inspire as many students as possible to become interested in the arts and sciences. As a first-time parent, Jazmin recently has also become actively involved in the Early Childhood Education program at San Juan Unified since welcoming her son into the world in October of 2019, who is a participant of this program. Her belief is that it is never too early to start your education, and it is never too late to finish your education.

Since the age of 12, Benji has worked with EDMO, and has gained a respect and love for both the philosophies of kindness & courage and the transformation of kids able to be in its positive environment. With over seven years of experience with both counseling and tutoring in English and Grammar, Benji is hoping to be able to help facilitate a more focused learning environment in the home (and give parents a well deserved break!). Younger than most Coaches on the site – as a Freshman at Whittier College – Benji will bring youthful energy and positivity to whoever he works with. Meghan has always looked at education as a foundation for creating greatness and strongly advocates for there to be creative and emotional education as well. Her passion and caring for all students was the impetus for Meghan’s decision to work in education, even assisting preschool – adult students when she was a student herself. Meghan earned her BS in Business Administration and has continued to use these skills to develop effective lesson plans and work in team leadership. She also has her TEFL certificate and has traveled overseas to teach English in both Palestine and Mexico. Meghan is currently working with Connecting Waters Charter School to teach homeschool students in a wide range of subjects.

Jazmin recently earned her BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in Dance from California State University, Sacramento. She is currently pursuing her MA in Teaching with a Single Subject Science Credential to pursue a career in teaching high school Biology and Chemistry. Jazmin has worked in the field of education since 2016, starting out as a tutor and has since taken positions as a noon duty aid, instructional para educator for special education, after school team leader, instructor, and substitute teacher. She also spent last summer at Camp EDMO working as a Pro Maker Instructor. Her passion for her students and education has driven her to pursue a teaching career to inspire as many students as possible to become interested in the arts and sciences. As a first-time parent, Jazmin recently has also become actively involved in the Early Childhood Education program at San Juan Unified since welcoming her son into the world in October of 2019, who is a participant of this program. Her belief is that it is never too early to start your education, and it is never too late to finish your education.

Ken is thrilled to have the opportunity to inspire and challenge young minds while rocking the EDMO vibe! He is currently a sapling among the trees at Stanford University who hopes to one day grow into a (tall) civil engineer and city planner. On the side, he serves as the news director at campus radio station KZSU 90.1FM. He has spent the past two summers at EDMO’s Alameda site, most recently as a Pro Maker Instructor, but his dedication to working with students began early on as the founder of a local mentoring program. Ken’s passion is guiding students along their quest in discovering their inner genius by leveraging their strengths and interests. You can often catch Ken in his natural habitat on board a city bus, or on the air talking about the news and interviewing fascinating people!
