Have a few questions about camp? Here is our EDMO Live! Camps FAQ with details about what’s happening each day, how we keep campers and staff safe, how campers are grouped, and more. Something else you want to know about? Email us at email@example.com or call the home office at 415.282.6673 and a member of our team would be happy to help out!
You can enroll in our am or pm camp at any time. Please note however that enrollment each week, for the following week only, ends at midnight on Thursdays. Our waitlist also closes at this time.
Families will be notified if a space opens up for a program they are waitlisted for. Please note however, if you don’t hear from us by 11:59PM Thursday evening the week prior to your waitlisted session, it means that space has unfortunately not become available. Should this occur, we always recommend you take a look at our EDMO Live! Drop-in or Coach sessions.
Although we always try to accommodate requests to switch weeks or sessions, please be aware that we are not always able to. Many of our sessions do fill up well in advance and there is not always space for additional campers.
You will receive the link for your child’s session by Saturday morning before the week a program begins. Please make sure you opt in to our email list to make sure you receive all of our communications. If for some reason you don’t see your link, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We practice a smaller camper to staff ratio of 10:1 max to make sure our Pre-K – K campers get the added attention they need. We also modify the daily schedule to be in shorter blocks with more movement breaks for this age group as sometimes for younger campers, their attention spans are a bit shorter.
For each program, we list the degree of grown-up involvement needed, whether it’s hands-on, eyes on, or hands-off. Keep in mind for our littlest campers, ages 4-5, we do expect an adult to be nearby at all times to assist with projects.
For your child’s safety, we have a moderated check-in process that takes about 10-15 minutes. We also ask all program participants to enter a session with their mic and video on so we can welcome them and make sure they are listed on our roster. In addition, all of our staff members have the ability to mute and turn off video for all participants, so if an issue does arise, we can immediately resolve the issue without disrupting the program.
We start off with all of our campers in a room and then break out into individual sessions based on their grade. To ensure our campers get the attention they need, we maintain the following ratios for each of our age groups: Junior Pre-K/K staff ratio of 10:1 max. All other grades 15:1 max. All staff are also federally and state background checked.
Let us know if you’d like your child to be grouped with specific friends. Our team will do their best to honor requests however sometimes circumstances like large age differences or camper:staff ratios preclude us from being able to group kids together. To make a buddy request, please list the name(s) of your child’s friend/family member under “Will your child be attending with another student” during the registration process.
Each EDMO Live! Camps session includes unique learning projects designed around The EDMO Method®, rec games, SEL activities, rallies, and screen time breaks. Social-Emotional Learning doesn’t just take place once a day but is embedded into all we do. Campers also take part in an SEL Skills Game where they earn “Recipe Points” when they show SEL skills like Responsibility, Empathy, Collaboration, Initiative, Problem Solving, and Decision Management.
You can find out what’s needed either on our website by clicking the “Supplies Needed” link for each theme and reviewing the EDMO Live! Supply List for our child’s grade. You’ll also get a re-cap of supplies needed in your welcome packet before the start of camp. Be sure to repurpose, recycle, reuse, and share supplies to save money and the planet when you can. Also, we recommend ordering as soon as possible after enrolling as delivery times are slower than usual.
Of course, this is EDMO Live! A few highlights to look out for are our weekly challenges where kids practice the SEL skills they learned at camp, at home. We also have a theme day every Thursday where campers can dress for their session in keeping with the week’s theme. Click on our Weekly Spirit page to learn more.
Your Camp Director will be sending you periodic updates. They’ll let you know what skills your child practiced that day, as well as provide any reminders about what’s happening next.
You’ll receive a link to your Zoom room in your welcome packet prior to the start of camp. Once you click on the link you and your child will enter and need to check in. Please note that we highly encourage you to set your Zoom account name to be either your name or your child’s name to match the name listed on your class registration. This is for safety and expedites the check-in process. We also recommend that families sign up for a free Zoom account as this can make the process easier. If you are using a tablet or phone you will need to use the Zoom ID and password in your welcome email.
If for some reason you become disconnected from Zoom, you can simply re-join the classroom using the same link you originally used to join. This will put you back in the waiting room. No worries though, we’ll spot you quickly and re-admit you as fast as we can.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot audio issues:
- Check to see if you are accidentally on mute. You can unmute yourself using the microphone icon. The icon will be red if you are muted.
- Make sure that your computer volume is turned up and not muted.
- Next to the Mute button, click the up arrow and choose “Test Speaker and Microphone,” then follow the instructions to troubleshoot your audio.
- Make sure you have the latest version of Zoom by clicking “Check for updates” in the Zoom settings.
If you are having trouble seeing or hearing ONE participant more than others, then that user may be experiencing a slow connection. If you are having trouble seeing or hearing ALL participants of the classroom, then the slow connection is likely on your end. You can improve your connection by trying the following:
- If you are using Wi-Fi, try to move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
- Check to see if other members of your household are streaming video on other devices.
- Make sure that your computer doesn’t have other programs running in other windows, besides Zoom and any software used in your class activities. In particular, try to close any web browser windows.
If you have a question for your instructor, you can use the “Raise Hand” button in Zoom to notify the instructor. When they call on you, unmute yourself and ask out loud. You can also use the chat feature to send a question to the Instructor.
If you get an error like this when trying to join the server, then the server is closed for the day. We only open up the server during scheduled camp hours. (If you get this error while at camp, then the instructor has temporarily closed the server, usually to get the class’s attention so they can discuss something as a group.)
